Huntsman Open to Possibility of Running for President in 2016

By    |   Thursday, 20 December 2012 02:41 PM EST

Former Utah GOP Gov. Jon Huntsman, who fared poorly in his bid for the presidency this year, clearly hasn’t ruled out the idea of running again.

The Ripon Forum journal asked Huntsman, “What’s your gut telling you about 2016 – are you going to run again?”

His response: “my gut is telling me you’ve got to clear out all the cobwebs in your head before you even think about anything of that kind. But I will tell you this — I’m committed to serving my country.”

In deciding whether to run, the first issue is “are you electable? And that’s a real conservation you have to have,” Huntsman said. Second, “are you hitting the needs of your nation at the right time historically? You don’t run just to run. You run because you bring something to the table that might be unique and helpful.” And finally your family has to be on board, he said.
