Huntsman Mounts Last Stand in New Hampshire

By    |   Wednesday, 30 November 2011 04:47 PM EST

The campaign of Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman has failed to gain traction, so he’s banking on the New Hampshire primary to right his ship, Politico reports.

The former Utah governor and ambassador to China has made 111 campaign appearances in the Granite State, topping all his opponents. But he has failed to rise above single digits in the polls.

While Huntsman expresses confidence about his chances, he’s also realistic. “I’d say that the pre-season probably ends about now,” he told Politico. “Then the final stretch goes from early December right through the primary vote. That’s kind of the sprint that we have ahead.” The New Hampshire primary is scheduled for Jan. 10.

In the latest WMUR/University of New Hampshire poll, Huntsman drew just 8 percent support, placing him in fourth behind Mitt Romney with 42 percent, Newt Gingrich with 15 percent, and Ron Paul with 12 percent.
