The 2012 Republican primary campaign doesn’t even have a clear front-runner yet, but already some in the political world are looking ahead to 2016. For example, former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas says he may run for president again next time around,
The Hill reports.
Huckabee came in second or third place, depending on how you count it, against 2008 nominee John McCain and fellow candidate Mitt Romney. He won eight primaries/caucuses, including the opening contest in Iowa.
"You never rule anything out for the long term," Huckabee said on an Israeli political talk show. "I'm not making an announcement, but certainly when people say, 'Would you ever do it?' I very might well do that."
Huckabee had mulled making another stab for the White House this time around but ultimately decided against it, saying his heart told him no. "It just wasn't the right time for me," he said. "Maybe someday it will be the right time."
Huckabee is leading a group of visitors on a Christian-themed tour of Israel. He said on the tour last week that none of the presidential candidates has impressed him enough to warrant an endorsement.
