If New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie was listening to former Vermont former Gov. Howard Dean in his speech to the Democratic State Conference on Thursday night, he heard an echo of a moment of political history, the infamous "Dean Scream," aimed directly at him.

Dean told the group, "I’m going to say this to Chris Christie. You can’t win in Nevada, and you’re not going to win in South Carolina, and you’re not going to win in New Hampshire, and you’re not going to win anywhere else, and you’re going to be right back here in the state of New Jersey, and you’re going to be out of a job," Politico reported.

Dean then launched into a spot-on mimicry of his fateful, and to some maniacal, scream, somewhere between a "Yeah!" and a "Yee-Haw!" which may have helped cost him the Democratic nomination in 2004.

Dean roundly blasted Christie and Republicans in general, telling the 200 Democrats meeting at Harrah's casino ballroom in Atlantic City, "If you want the system to work, you have to work for everybody, and the Republicans only care about the system working for them, and that will not work for the United States of America," NJ.com reported.

Dean is keeping busy on the campaign trail, lashing out at both Republicans and centrist Democrats. On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Dean told host Joe Scarborough, "If you look at the red-letter version of the Bible, Jesus was probably to the left of the Democratic Party."

Dean told Scarborough, in a discussion about why evangelical Republicans don't vote for Democrats, "Let me share some incredibly interesting polling data we got 10 years ago when I was running the DNC [Democratic National Committee]. I was wondering why evangelicals didn't vote for Democrats, because if you look at the red-letter version of the Bible, Jesus was probably to the left of the Democratic Party.

"So we did polling. And here's what we found. This is 10 years ago. Evangelicals over 55, it was all about abortion and gay marriage. Evangelicals under 35 in this country, the No. 1 issue was poverty, the No. 2 issue was climate change."

Christie also came under fire at the Democratic meeting by former Goldman Sachs executive and one-time DNC Finance Chairman Phil Murphy, who lambasted Christie for "absentee leadership in a state that needs leadership desperately."

He told the group, "I don't frankly care who it is, but we need new leadership. This is an urgent leadership crisis. The sooner the better," NJ.com reported.
