One issue both Democrats and Republicans can agree upon is the need to fight child pornography. So a bi-partisan group of House members is creating bill mandating that Internet providers keep computer identification records of users to help the FBI in its investigations of child-pornography suspects,
The Hill reports.
The bill is being sponsored by Republican House Judiciary Committee Chairman
Lamar Smith, Texas, and has the strong support of Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Fla. The bill could be one of the few on which Democrats and Republicans agree as their conflict in the House grows more intense.
The FBI presently can’t pursue thousands of child pornography cases because it can’t get to records of computer users, Wasserman Schultz says.
