A newly elected lawmaker that’ll be part of next year’s Democratic-majority House said Monday she’s a “no” vote for House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.
In remarks on MSNBC, Rep.-elect Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., said it’s time for a changing of the guard.
"I have been talking about how important it is we have new leadership in Congress right now," Sherrill said. "And so I won’t be voting for Nancy Pelosi."
"But she has been a very effective Speaker to this point," she added.
"I do think it is important we move forward with new leadership."
There’s reportedly been opposition to Pelosi among Democrats that could undercut her run for Speaker.
But on Sunday, she had the support of three other top Democrats on investigative panels in the House: the likely next chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., as well as Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
“We need the strongest general that we have. We need the best tactician. We need the best organizer. And that's her," Schiff, the soon-to-be chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told NBC News’ “Meet The Press.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Cummings, who’s set to become chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, added: “She's got my vote. Nancy Pelosi is battle-tested… and I’m looking forward to working with her as my speaker. And I’m going to vote for her and encourage all my colleagues to vote for her.”
