House Republicans have wrapped up a 110-page report detailing conclusions they have reached from the first stages of the impeachment inquiry, defending President Donald Trump's actions with Ukraine and saying Democrats conducted an "orchestrated campaign" against the nation's political system.
CBS News, which obtained a copy of the report, said the document is intended as a supplement for Democrats' report on their findings. The report was compiled by Republican staffers from the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, and Oversight Committees.
Members will begin reviewing the Democrats' report Monday night, and both reports will go to the House Judiciary Committee, which starts its own hearings Wednesday.
According to the Republican report, the evidence collected through private and public testimony over the past two months does not support the allegations that have been made against Trump.
"The Democrats are trying to impeach a duly elected President based on the accusations and assumptions of unelected bureaucrats who disagreed with President Trump's policy initiatives and processes," the report claims.
Republicans also write that Trump did not do anything improper by ordering $391 million in military aid be withheld and that he did not push Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Instead, they said the evidence showed that Trump has a "deep-seated, genuine, and reasonable skepticism of Ukraine due to its history of pervasive corruption."
The report also says Ukraine's government did not know the aid was delayed until August, as the Trump administration thought the pause could be mischaracterized.
The Republicans also said that there was nothing wrong about asking about Hunter Biden and his being on the board of directors of "Burisma, a corrupt Ukrainian company, or about Ukraine's attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election," as there evidence showing that Ukraine tried to meddle.
