Three House Democrats are launching a new national security task force to push back on President Donald Trump's foreign policy, CNN reported.

Reps. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Stephanie Murphy of Florida and Jimmy Panetta of California will lead the effort to counter policies from the White House and congressional Republicans, the news network said.

Moulton served with the Marines in Iraq, while Panetta is a Navy veteran and Murphy worked as a civilian at the Pentagon, according to CNN.

"We've been right on a lot of national security issues, but we haven't been leaders on this," Moulton said. "In many ways, the Republican Party has taken the mantle of national security leadership, even though a lot of their decisions and policies have been detrimental."

CNN noted the task force will allow Democrats to showcase their ideas on foreign policy while positioning themselves for the 2020 presidential race. Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright is scheduled to speak to members next week.

"As a Marine who served multiple combat tours in Iraq fighting a war I wish we hadn't started, I know how important it is to make smart national security decisions," Moulton said in a statement.

While Trump has won praise for some foreign policy issues, Democrats are hoping to capitalize on a tough stand against Russia, CNN reported.
