More than five dozen Democrats in the House sent a letter to President Donald Trump Friday that asked for the dismissal of Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt.
Reps. Don Beyer, D-V., David Cicilline, D-R.I., and 62 others would like to see Pruitt either resign or be fired over allegations that he violated ethics guidelines while in office.
"We formally request that you ask Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt to resign," the letter reads. "Scott Pruitt's unethical behavior, wasteful use of taxpayer money, and his efforts to undermine the EPA's core mission to protect our environment and public health demand an appropriate response: his resignation or his firing."
Pruitt is under fire over his travel arrangements, for renting a room from a woman with ties to a lobbyist, and for significant raises that were given to two EPA officials.
He has denied doing anything wrong and said this week that he canceled the pay raises when he heard about them.
The House Democrats also called out Pruitt for cutting regulations, something Trump and Republicans have praised.
"The regulatory mission of the EPA is in danger," the letter reads. "Pruitt has moved to roll back or review nearly 50 existing regulations protecting the air, water, and climate, many of which would help prevent tens of thousands of premature deaths and saved billions of dollars in public health benefits."
