House Democrats are "terrified" that special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation will prove them "completely wrong" and show that President Donald Trump did nothing wrong, White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said Thursday, while the House voted to make results of the probe public.
"We expect what happens with the result is the same thing the president has said, that this is a witch hunt, a hoax," Gidley told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Now they're understanding that they could have been taken in by the whole hoax themselves and they will be made to look quite foolish at the end of this."
He added that the White House is not really preparing for the report's release, "because the exoneration we expect is forthcoming. The president has done nothing wrong. He said it many times."
Meanwhile, the Senate is to vote against Trump's national emergency resolution on the border, but Gidley said those voting against stand in opposition to American communities and citizens who want a safe border.
"For 40 years Congress has had the opportunity to fix our laws and protect our people," he said.
Gidley also chided show co-anchor Bill Hemmer when he asked him about former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke's entrance into the presidential race.
"It's Robert Francis," said Gidley, using O'Rourke's given name. "The Hatch Act looms. I can't talk much about the election.
And when Hemmer asked if Trump would be calling O'Rourke Robert Francis, Gidley told him "he has called him that before. That's his name. Why wouldn't he?"
