Hillary Clinton told a conference of Latino leaders that she would be on their side against Donald Trump.
"I'm going to work my heart out but I need your help. I need you at my side because this is your election," Clinton said,
according to The Hill.
At an appearance for the United Latino American Citizens' conference, Clinton pointed out that Trump has been at odds with Hispanic groups often.
"They will nominate someone who thinks Latino outreach is tweeting a picture of a taco bowl," she said about the upcoming Republican National Convention.
She was referring to a Trump
social media post on Cinco de Mayo, when he tweeted the picture with the caption, "I love Hispanics!"
The presumptive Democratic nominee pointed to another Trump quote, in which he criticized former presidential candidate, Jeb Bush,
for "speaking Mexican."
"You cannot make this up," Clinton added.
A near-record number of Latinos are filling out paperwork to become citizens and registering to vote in the 2016 election,
according to American Prospect, and some Latinos are readying to shift their support from Bernie Sanders to Clinton,
according to NBC News.
