The cost of flying Bill and Hillary Clinton around the country on private jets to stump for Democratic candidates during the midterm elections topped $1.5 million, according to Politico.

Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her White House candidacy in the coming months, and her travel expenses have been called into question, especially since several other potential presidential candidates flew commercial while hitting the campaign trail with midterm candidates.

A review of financial filings from campaigns and political committees showed that the Clintons’ flights included a $44,360 charge for the final weekend of the campaign for a quick trip to Iowa by the former president in a failed bid to help Democrat Senate hopeful Bruce Braley.

The total also listed a $21,801 charge for the same weekend in support of Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu’s losing re-election campaign, Politico reported.

More than 60 payments were made to the New York-based company Executive Fliteways between 2013 and 2014, a review of FEC records, state party expenses, and campaign filings found. The tally included a $49,800 payment from the California Democrat Party to Executive Fliteways just days before the midterms.

The Clintons, who travel with a security detail, held around 100 events combined for various candidates across the country during the midterm campaign. Hillary Clinton has also traveled extensively to give paid speeches and promote her book "Hard Choices."

She has made trips to Iowa and New Hampshire for candidates in the early presidential voting states, but the visits could also help her if she decides to make a White House run, Politico noted.

Meanwhile, the political news website also revealed that election travel expenses for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the outgoing chairman of the Republican Governors Association who’s also tipped to be a presidential contender, was more than $1 million.
