Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is the preferred vice presidential pick for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, according to the results of a new poll.

The Rasmussen survey found that 36 percent of likely Democratic voters think Clinton should tap Sanders as her running mate if she earns the presidential nomination.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, once talked about as a potential presidential candidate, is the preferred VP by 19 percent of those surveyed.

Third in the poll was Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, who garnered 10 percent support.

Other top findings in the poll:
  • 8 percent of likely Democratic voters think New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker should be Clinton's VP pick.
  • Among all likely voters, 26 percent would like to see Sanders chosen as Clinton's running mate.
  • 78 percent of all likely voters said the vice presidential nominee will influence how they vote.
Sanders trails Clinton in the delegate vote total, 2,240 votes to 1,473 votes. Sanders won seven straight primaries in March and April, along with three out of the last four entering Tuesday's showdowns in Kentucky and Oregon.

Clinton needs 2,383 delegate votes to secure the presidential nomination.

The latest poll from NBC News/Survey Monkey showed Clinton is in a virtual tie with presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
