Joe Biden would reverse several immigration policies enacted under President Donald Trump if elected to the White House, according to an analysis released Wednesday by a prominent conservative policy institute, calling the differences ''stark.''
Lora Ries, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation, published a 17-page analysis explaining how Biden likely would return to many of the policies enacted and pursued under the administration of President Barack Obama, from the border wall, DACA, general amnesty to illegal immigrants, sanctuary cities, asylum, travel restrictions and more.
''The contrast between President Trump and Biden’s immigration policies is stark,'' Ries wrote. ''In a second term, President Trump would pursue merit-based immigration reform with Congress, navigate rescinding DACA while negotiating an amnesty with Congress (for anywhere from 800,000 to up to 11 million illegal aliens), and continue to secure the border in the face of strong COVID-economy immigration push factors.
''If Biden were to become President, he would return to many of the same immigration policies in place during the Obama Administration. This would include protecting and expanding the DACA program, admitting at least 125,000 refugees annually, and seeking amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens.''
In a story first reported by Fox News, Ries points to the wall as the most tangible difference between Trump and Biden.
While the former vice president has vowed that not another foot of the wall would be built, the Trump administration is well on its way to the goal of construction of 450 to 500 miles of new wall by the end of the year.
''As of October 2020, the Administration has completed over 350 miles of new wall system, including access roads, lighting, and sensors,'' she wrote. ''With over 200 additional miles under construction and approximately 150 miles under pre-construction, the Administration appears to be on track to build 450 miles of new wall system by the end of 2020.''
Besides the Obama-administration created ''Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals'' – or DACA – program, which Ries states was enacted without any legal authority and Trump has worked to end, the current administration, she notes, has begun the process to amend immigration rules that would make someone determined to become a public charge inadmissible.
Biden has said he would rescind the Trump administration actions.
