Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson said her job is becoming increasingly harder to perform because of the lack of confirmed White House nominees, the Washington Examiner reported.
The Air Force has four preferred candidates for the six positions that must be confirmed by the Senate, Wilson told the Senate Armed Services Committee, according to the Examiner. Officials are still interviewing candidates for two of the spots, she said.
No one has officially been nominated for the six positions.
"It is becoming difficult, yes," Wilson said when asked by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., whether the delays were impacting her job.
President Donald Trump has blamed Democrats for holding up his nominations. But Politico reported the Trump administration is partly responsible for the stall by sitting on the necessary paperwork needed to start the confirmation process.
Wilson was confirmed as Air Force secretary by the Senate on May 8. She was the first service secretary to be confirmed in the Trump administration, CNN noted.
She was only the second confirmed position in the Pentagon since Trump was sworn in, according to the news network.
At the hearing, she specifically addressed the delays in filling the Air Force spots.
"Where is the problem, in the White House?" Graham asked Wilson.
"Sir, I don't know," Wilson answered.
