President Donald Trump's comments Tuesday regarding the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, have been embraced by hate groups.

Former KKK leader David Duke thanked Trump for his "honesty and courage to tell the truth about Charlottesville and condemn the leftist terrorists," referring to Trump doubling down on his initial statements that "many sides" attributed to the violence, which left three people dead and at least 34 injured when white nationalists clashed with counter protestors.

"Alt-right" activist Tim Gionet, aka @BakedAlaska on Twitter, praised Trump for "condemning the alt-left antifa thugs who attacked us in Charlottesville."

Antifa is short for anti-fascists, or far-left-leaning militant groups that resist neo-Nazis and white supremacists at demonstrations and other events.

White nationalist William Johnson said he was thrilled by what Trump said.

"I think that America needs to take a different direction," Johnson told NBC News' Jacob Soboroff on Wednesday. "We have a festering racial problem that's only going to get worse. I think the only solution is separation . . . and Donald Trump is going to, I think, help us overcome the racial divide."
