The GOP representative from Montana who assaulted a reporter raised $116,000 the day after the incident, The Guardian reported.
Greg Gianforte in May body slammed a reporter from the Guardian and broke his glasses. He was charged with assault on election eve but still won the special election.
"He took me to the ground," reporter Ben Jacobs told The Guardian. "I think he wailed on me once or twice . . . He got on me, and I think he hit me . . . This is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me in reporting on politics."
A report from the Federal Election Committee shows Gianforte, a tech millionaire, raised more money the day after the incident than he had the five previous days combined. Gianforte, who pledged to donate $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists, apologized to Jacobs and described his conduct as "unprofessional, unacceptable, and unlawful."
