Ex-Mich. Gov. Granholm: Run Romney Out of Motor City

By    |   Thursday, 09 June 2011 01:31 PM EDT

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is spending his second day in Detroit today to gather support and money for his campaign. Although temperatures in the Motor City have been as blistering as much of the rest of the country, it’s cooler there today — and former Democratic Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm hopes the former Massachusetts governor gets a downright chilly reception.

In an opinion piece on Politico, she excoriates the Michigan native for opposing the bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler in 2008-09.

“As at recent events, he’s likely to take partial credit for the extraordinary resurgence of the U.S. auto industry,” Granholm writes. But “Romney vehemently opposed helping the auto industry . . . He advocated a course that would have led to certain liquidation for Chrysler and General Motors.”

So how should Michigan residents respond? “When Romney comes here with his hand out . . . , his Michigan supporters should treat him in the same way he treated the auto industry,” Granholm recommends.
