South Carolina Sen.
Lindsey Graham, one of the Republican Party’s top power players on foreign affairs, wants Republican presidential candidates to avoid adopting an isolationist stance in opposing President Barack Obama,
The Hill reports.
The candidates shouldn’t object to the aid we send to countries in the Mideast, and they should hold Obama’s feet to the fire to make sure he forces Libyan strong man Muammar Gadhafi from power, Graham said in a speech Wednesday.
He is concerned about the emergence of an “unholy alliance” between “the far right and far left” against involvement overseas, led by Reps. Ron Paul, R-Texas, and Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio. That could lead Republicans to adopt an isolationist foreign-policy platform during the 2012 campaign, Graham said. Paul will likely run for president.
