Fifty-one percent of residents say their governor has communicated a clear plan of action for responding to the pandemic, according to a new Gallup poll.

The number is down from 56% in a Gallup poll in early June.

Here are how the results of the new poll break down:

  • 50% say their governor keeps them informed about the pandemic — down from 55% in the earlier poll.
  • 59% say their governor cares about the safety and health of their community — down from 64%.

“While governors' ratings for communicating about the virus and caring about their communities are down slightly, this is not uniform across the country but varies by the party of the sitting governor,” Gallup noted in a report accompanying the results.

It cited these results:

  • 43% of residents in states where a Republican is governor agree the governor is communicating a clear plan of action — compared 54% in the earlier poll.
  • 53% of residents in states where a Republican is governor agree their governor cares about the safety and health of the community — compared to 61% in the June poll.

Meanwhile, there has been no significant change in the governor ratings of residents in Democrat-led states as a whole, according to Gallup.

The poll, conducted June 29-July 5, surveyed 3,609 people. The margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
