The Republican Party is open to all types of conservatives, RNC chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said Wednesday.
McDaniel appeared on Fox News' "The Daily Briefing" and told host Dana Perino the GOP is not just full of traditional conservatives who are part of the establishment.
"I think there's room for every type of conservative," McDaniel said.
McDaniel, who took over the reins of the GOP in January, then argued President Donald Trump is more of a traditional Republican than people think.
"I have to say, President Trump is a traditional Republican," she said. "He came to my state of Michigan. He talked about cutting taxes, about limiting government, about deregulation. These are Republican ideals, and he has exemplified them as the president. I don't agree with this narrative that he's not a traditional Republican."
Trump has butted heads with some politicians in the Republican establishment, including Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Bob Corker, R-Tenn. Both men announced they will not run for reelection next year.
