Rudy Giuliani, President Donald Trump's attorney, refuted claims in a whistleblower's complaint, saying he has 'no knowledge of any of that crap," according to CNN.
The former New York City mayor spoke multiple times to CNN on Thursday. The whistleblower's complaint, which has sparked an impeachment inquiry, raises concerns about Giuliani's role in seeking assistance from Ukraine to benefit the president's re-election effort.
Giuliani was asked about a claim in the complaint that U.S. officials were "deeply concerned" about his talks with Ukrainian officials and nationals. He called the claim "total nonsense." He also denied claims in the complaint that State Department officials had spoken to him to "contain the damage" from his talks in Ukraine.
"At no time did either one of them say they wanted to contain damage," Giuliani told the news network. "At no time did the State Department in communication with me ever relay any of that information you're talking about."
He said he has text message conversations that back up his story.
"I spoke to the State Department during the course of this situation, I told you, at least 10 times, and I met with them," Giuliani said.
And he complained about the treatment he was receiving compared to the whistleblower.
"I should be as sympathetic as a whistleblower," he said. "I did my job and now all these people are torturing me."
Giuliani noted that he has about a half dozen text messages that indicate the State Department officials were encouraging his Ukraine work.
