Winning Our Future, the super PAC that raised almost 25 million dollars to support Newt Gingrich’s run for the White House, will be back for 2014 election cycle – without its marquee name.
The former presidential candidate will have no involvement with the group, which could diminish greatly donations from Gingrich’s backers, most notably Sheldon Adelson, the Las Vegas mogul whose family was responsible for almost all of the super PAC’s cash.
“We fully expect that some donors gave strictly to support Newt and will not want to support a different mission,” said Chuck Muth, a Las Vegas-based consultant working for Winning Our Future.
Muth said past donors “will be asked to continue supporting our efforts going forward,” and predicted “if we make a compelling case for sticking with us, some will.”
The super PAC wasn’t exactly flush with cash at the end of 2012.
After refunding $5 million to Adelson’s family, it finished the year with only $60,000 in the bank.
Winning Our Future is planning to re-brand itself as a booster of the conservative ground game and possibly 2014 GOP Senate candidates.
Muth said there are a number of options open for Winning Our Future, including involvement in 2014 Senate races and working to mobilize grassroots organizations – an area recognized by many conservatives as one that failed them in 2012.
