Gingrich Takes Campaign to Hawaii

Wednesday, 17 August 2011 04:33 PM EDT

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who was criticized for taking time out from his quest for the Republican presidential nomination to go on a cruise to Greece, is heading to Hawaii just in time for his wedding anniversary. Gingrich’s schedule also shows him squeezing in a trip to California between stops in New Hampshire, CBS News’ Political Hotsheet reported.

Newt Gingrich, Hawaii, president, GOPGingrich’s schedule has him as a guest on a talk radio show broadcasting out of New London, N.H., today and then taking his wife, Callista, to California to screen their documentary "A City Upon a Hill." After a few campaign events, the two head off to Wailuku, Hawaii, for a meeting with the Maui Republican Party activists on Saturday. After that, Gingrich is free until Monday, according to the Hotsheet.

After a meeting with students from a prep school in Makawao, also on the island of Maui, on Monday, he’ll head back to the mainland on Tuesday and back to New Hampshire on Thursday.

The trip again raises questions about Gingrich’s commitment to the campaign, the Hotsheet said, noting that his campaign manager in June quit after the Greek cruise.

A report in Politico pointed out that the Hawaii trip coincides with the Gingriches' 11th wedding anniversary Thursday.
