By    |   Friday, 31 October 2014 09:16 PM EDT

Republicans are holding strong leads in the top two races in Georgia, according to the latest Vox Populi survey.

Republican Senate candidate David Perdue leads Democratic nonprofit executive Michelle Nunn, 48-43 percent, according to survey results released on Friday.

Libertarian candidate Amanda Swafford holds 3 percent support, while 6 percent of the 602 voters surveyed on Tuesday remain undecided.

In the race for governor, incumbent Republican Nathan Deal 7 points ahead of Democrat Jason Carter, 49-42 percent, percent with Libertarian Andrew Hunt taking 3 percent. Seven percent of those responding said they remained undecided.

Both Republicans have strong support from independents, with Deal ahead at 51-38 percent and Perdue at 51-41 percent.

"David Perdue appears to have opened a small lead outside of the margin of error," said Vox Populi spokeswoman Lisa Boothe. "Both Perdue and Deal owe their leads in part to their strength with independents and female voters."

Among women, Perdue polled more strongly than Nunn, 45-43 percent, while Deal finished ahead of Carter, 46-42 percent.

The Vox Populi survey has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
