Secretary of State John Kerry and Vice President Joe Biden's approval ratings top President Barack Obama's, according to a new Gallup poll.

Participants in the survey of 1,510 adults gave Kerry a 60 percent job approval rating, compared to 51 percent for Biden and 45 percent for the president. Kerry's disapproval rating among respondents was 31 percent, compared to 39 percent for Biden and 51 percent for Obama.

The survey was conducted Sept. 5-8 while the Syria debate was raging, but before Obama's speech to the nation last Tuesday and before Saturday's agreement between the United States and Russia to seize Syria's chemical weapons.

"The president is clearly in a position to shoulder more of the blame when things do not go well, and to take more of the credit when they do," writes Gallup's Jeffrey Jones.

"Given the extraordinary attention the media pay to presidents, Americans probably have more information about the president and how he is handling his job to help form a judgment than they do about the vice president and other cabinet members."

Meanwhile, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted Sept. 9-13 shows that 75 percent of Americans support efforts to address Syria's use of chemical weapons through an international agreement to control chemical weapons.
