Rep. Fred Keller, R-Pa., told Newsmax TV on Monday that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is “trying to have it both ways” with his comments about former President Donald Trump following his impeachment trial.
McConnell said on Saturday, after the Senate voted to acquit Trump on charges of inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, that the former president "is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day" and could still have to face criminal or civil punishment.
Keller told "John Bachman Now" that McConnell's speech shows that he's "trying to have it both ways. He votes one way and then delivers another speech."
He added, "Quite frankly, [McConnell is] trying to ride defense on this whole thing and not make anybody mad, but the truth of the matter is we need we need to follow the Constitution. We need to look at that and we need to hold people accountable for their actions."
Keller later said, “I don’t think that the impeachment managers told the whole story,” and said at one point that “what we saw that day was a horrific and should not have happened in our nation's capital, but we need to hold those people accountable for their actions.”
