Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich Wednesday accused at least two states of trying to steal the election from President Donald Trump and called on GOP Senate leaders and the president to open "fraud" investigations on "every single state" where results have not yet been called.
"The president should be prepared to file suit in every single state, and he ought to go back and look carefully at Arizona," Gingrich said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" after show co-host Brian Kilmeade asked him what should be done about the "contentious situations in North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin."
"The other thing I would say is the more he can be presidential and not candidate-like, the more disciplined he can be in going into this, the better off he's going to be because the country is tired."
Gingrich said he would ask Trump to ask Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham to "open up investigations on all these different states."
The results of the election are too early to call in those five states, as well as in Nevada, where vote-counting will resume Thursday. Gingrich strongly accused both Nevada and Pennsylvania of working to throw the election to Democrat nominee Joe Biden.
"Former Attorney General of Nevada Adam Laxalt warned six or eight weeks ago that the Democrats in Nevada were setting up the state to steal it," Gingrich charged. "I was born in Harrisburg. I think anybody who knows much about Pennsylvania history knows that Philadelphia's the center of vote theft and that the governor and the legislature did all he could to maximize the opportunity to steal votes in Pennsylvania."
Gingrich condemned decisions to put states where Biden was "barely ahead" in his column, and said that from Trump's perspective, "this looked like a setup to steal the presidency by the Democrats."
"You send in ballots after the vote, they don't have to have a signature, they don't have to have a witness," he said. "It's an invitation for vote theft."
He also claimed that as the media is "hostile" to Trump, "you cannot, as a conservative, look at this and not feel that the Democrats have done all they could to steal the presidency and that the legal fight the president's going to wage is exactly right."
