Fox News Projects GOP Gains Control of House

At shortly after 9 p.m., based on early returns, analysts projected that the Republican Party will seize control of the House of Representatives in the 2010 midterm elections.

Early results in bellwether races indicate the GOP wave could result in a net Democratic loss of a whopping 60 seats. That would be in line with the projections of national political analysts Charlie Cook and Stuart Rothenberg.

"To me, that's an earthquake," former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said in reaction to the news. "It's a huge message sent. It is a shake-up. Then we're going to see some of the shake-up in the Senate too.

"We heard [GOP Senator-elect] Rand Paul talk now as a voice of the people in the Senate, talking about American exceptionalism and the American Dream, knowing that dream is snuffed out when the government is too large and overreaching. He [is] doing what he can in the Senate now to shake things up and turn it around. The House will be much easier to do that."
