First Lady Melania Trump's popularity is continuing to climb after she has moved into the White House and is assuming more of her new role, with 51 percent of voters viewing her favorably, according to a new Fox News poll.
The first lady's popularity has gone up 14 points since December and by 16 points from the first time Fox News polled about her last summer. Last August, just 35 percent of those polled viewed her favorably and 40 percent unfavorably, while 24 percent said they could not rate her.
According to the current numbers:
- 51 percent view her favorably;
- 28 percent, negatively
Over last summer:
- Republicans, up 24 points;
- Democrats, up 12 points;
- Men, up 17 points;
- Women, up 15 points;
- Voters under age 45, up 18 points;
- Ages 45 and over, up 16 points.
The poll also revealed that men, by 55 percent, viewed the first lady favorably, while 48 percent of women had a favorable view. Further, Republicans, by 82 percent, were more likely to view Trump favorably than Democrats, by 26 percent.
Her ratings still fall short of Michelle Obama's, who at the same point of her husband's presidency enjoyed a 73 percent positive favorable rating.
President Donald Trump's ratings are also up slightly, according to the poll, which showed that 47 percent have a favorable opinion, compared to 44 percent in March and 38 percent before the November election. However, more people, at 51 percent, viewed him unfavorably.
Vice President Mike Pence's numbers were positive, at 47-42 percent, but leaders in the legislative branch were less popular.
- House Speaker Paul Ryan (37 percent favorable vs. 45 percent unfavorable);
- House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (33-50 percent);
- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (26-35 percent);
- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (25-41 percent).
The poll was conducted between June 25-27 and based on phone interviewed with 1,017 registered voters. It carried a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
