Fox Host Doocy: GOP Hasn't Shown Biden Illegalities

By    |   Monday, 11 December 2023 12:01 PM EST

Fox News morning show host Steve Doocy on Monday tried to pour cold water on House Republicans' desire for a formal impeachment inquiry vote by saying investigators "have not shown where [President] Joe Biden did anything illegally."

Doocy's comment came during a "Fox and Friends" segment in which four co-hosts discussed House Republicans' plan to hold a formal vote on an impeachment inquiry concerning Biden's alleged influence peddling in his family's foreign business dealings.

Co-host Ainsley Earrhardt asked Doocy about Republican lawmakers from 18 Biden-won states being "scared" to vote for an impeachment inquiry, Mediaite reported.

"The Republicans at this point don't have — they've got a lot of ledgers and spreadsheets — but they have not connected the dots," Doocy said. "They've connected the dots, the Department of Justice did, on [first son] Hunter [Biden], but they have not shown where Joe Biden did anything illegally."

After co-host Lawrence B. Jones pointed out that impeachment is not a criminal prosecution but a political procedure, and that it appeared the Bidens may have done things that are "unethical," Doocy issued a warning to House GOP members.

"If they don't have the stuff and they try to impeach him [the president], anyway, there could be trouble for those 18 Republicans," Doocy said.

Doocy also appeared to take a shot at House Oversight and Accountability Chair James Comer, R-Ky., and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, for insisting that Hunter Biden appear for a deposition before testifying in a public hearing.

Hunter Biden has been subpoenaed to appear behind closed doors on Wednesday.

"Now, here's the other breaking news, and that is the Republicans are threatening contempt of Congress if Hunter does not show up for a closed-door deposition," Doocy said. "Ultimately, on this show, we've been calling for Hunter to go and sit in a chair on Capitol Hill in front of the TV cameras for the last year.

"Now, Hunter's lawyer, Abbe Lowell, says he will do that, but Comer and Jim Jordan say, no, it's not negotiable, he's got to be in private. According to Hunter Biden's team, they don't want to do it because of leaks and stuff like that."

Politico reported Monday that only one Republican House member, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., has said he's opposed to a vote this week to formalize an impeachment inquiry.
