Former National Republican Congressional Committee treasurer Christopher J. Ward was sentenced to more than three years in prison for stealing more $844,000.
The Washington Post reports that Ward stole the money from the NRCC and other fundraising operations.

According to the Post, Federal Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly scolded Ward for stealing from those who sought to be involved in the political debate, telling him “you clearly lost your moral compass.”
Ward, 42, expressed sorrow for the theft and has been ordered to make restitution. The Post reports that he will begin serving his 37-month sentence in January. According to the Post, Ward, who has already turned over some $300,000, served as treasurer for 83 committees while being paid about $300,000 a year. The stolen money went for country club fees, vacations, and private schools, The Post said.
