An advocacy group filed a court brief this week in support of President Donald Trump's move to block Twitter users from following him, saying an earlier court ruling "misconstrued the First Amendment."

The Coolidge Reagan Foundation filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York City on Wednesday. The document spells out the organization's view that a May ruling by Judge Naomi Buchwald of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York was misguided in saying that Trump violated the First Amendment by blocking Twitter users.

Coolidge Reagan Foundation founder, president, and counsel Dan Backer said, "The district court has misconstrued the First Amendment in this case, and its ruling could have problematic consequences for other areas of law."

The amicus brief picked apart the ruling and said it should be reversed for several reasons, including the argument that Trump's Twitter account should not have been designated by the court as a governmental public forum.
