Trump Tweets Turley, Fox: 'President Deserves Some Answers'

Trump Tweets Turley, Fox: 'President Deserves Some Answers'

By    |   Monday, 28 May 2018 12:36 PM EDT

President Donald Trump, in a trio of tweets Monday morning, continued to speak out about the FBI and Department of Justice actions during his campaign, while tweeting comments from Fox News from law professor Jonathan Turley, who said he agrees that the matter deserves to be investigated.

In the first of the series of tweets, Trump quoted the network:

"The President deserves some answers.' @FoxNews in discussing 'SPYGATE.'"

The phrase, "a lot of people are saying the president deserves some answers," was used while introducing Turley on "Fox And Friends," and that the law professor "agrees" Trump deserves answers.

In the second tweet, Trump quoted Turley himself, after the law professor discussed former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, and her refusal to defend Trump's first travel ban order.

"Sally Yates is part of concerns people have raised about bias in the Justice Dept.," Trump tweeted. "'I find her actions to be really quite unbelievable.' Jonathan Turley."

Turley had made the comment about her being part of the concerns that have been made, noting that "she told an entire department to stand down and not to defend the president's first immigration order. At the time I said that she was fired for good cause. I still believe that."

"I find her actions to be really quite unbelievable," Turley continued in his discussion about Yates' firing. "Courts have divided on this issue. We'll get a ruling soon from the Supreme Court but you don't tell an entire department to stand down and not support a president of the United States. That type of action really fuels this 'deep state' narrative that people have said. I don't know what the truth is about this investigation but I definitely want to see what the truth is."

Trump also tweeted in another quote from Turley, that "we now find out that the Obama Administration put the opposing campaigns presidential candidate, or his campaign, under investigation. That raises legitimate questions. I just find this really odd...this goes to the heart of our electoral system." Jonathan Turley on @FoxNews"

Turley had commented that he does think that Trump raised a legitimate issue with his concerns about the FBI and his campaign, although he doesn't agree with "how he did it."

"But to say that we shouldn't investigate this matter I think is rather bizarre," said Turley. "Roughly half this country voted for this president. We now find out that the Obama administration put the opposing campaign's presidential candidate or his campaign under investigation. That raises legitimate questions."

He added that if it were ex-President George W. Bush's administration investigating President Barack Obama's campaign, 'There would be a lot of Democrats saying we want to know."

"At the end of the day, we aren't going to come together as a country as long as both sides are trying to shut down investigations," said Turley. "I think the public is growing a little tired with partisans filtering all of these issues. I think what the public wants is a full record that they can reach conclusions from, and for those people that voted for Trump and even those people who did not, to suggest that a campaign like this was under investigation of both surveillance and possible informants or spies goes to the heart of our electoral system."
