Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo. says it’s fair to criticize Dr. Anthony Fauci for recommendations that led to “devastating” policies resulting in economic calamity.
“Absolutely it’s fair,” Buck told Sean Spicer Tuesday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “Spicer & Co.”
“Some of the medical advice Dr. Fauci has given is credible and some of it is not. I think when you look at the predictions of the fatality rates in this country – they were way, way off – and it caused the policymakers to balance towards the medical side of the equation and I think that’s unfair and that it wasn’t good advice at the time.”
Fauci, America's leading expert on infectious diseases and a key member of the White House's coronavirus task force, last week said America’s embrace of social distancing is sharply reducing projections of the death toll from the respiratory virus.
The final toll currently "looks more like 60,000 than the 100,000 to 200,000" that U.S. officials previously estimated, Fauci said.
The figure is reflected in a new projection by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, or IMHE, a research center at the University of Washington.
Buck said he criticizes the policy makers for “the economic shutdowns the governors have had,” … “but I think the fatality estimates were way off and caused some policies that were frankly devastating.”
