Gov. Fallin to Newsmax: Mitt Romney, Be Yourself

By    |   Monday, 27 August 2012 04:32 PM EDT

Mitt Romney needs to present “who he is” in his speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.

“Gov. Romney just needs to be who he is–and that is a man who’s been a wonderful not only family man, a wonderful husband, but certainly a great business man, a great visionary,” Fallin tells Newsmax. “If you look at what he did when he was governor of Massachusetts, that is what Gov. Romney can do for the United States.

“We can get our national economy back on track, create the jobs, reduce our deficit and create the right kind of business climate so that people can flourish and be able to support their families the way they want to.”

Video to come.

The former Massachusetts governor must also reach out to women, Fallin said.

“Women will be able to hear Gov. Romney’s plans for America. I have two children myself, and what I hear my fellow mothers, my friends, talk about is their concerns about whether their children are going to have a job when they graduate from high school – or when they go onto college, will they be able to support themselves.

“They’re also concerned about jobs and the economy itself. Can we, as mothers, have good-paying jobs? Those are all great concerns to working mothers and to women in general.”

Fallin is looking forward to her RNC prime-time speech on Tuesday.

“I’m going to talk about how President Obama said to businesses and entrepreneurs, ‘You didn’t build that. Somebody else did.’ Well, like who? Like who built that?

“It wasn’t the federal government that was able to help those entrepreneurs create a business and grow it and help create jobs in our national economy. It was individuals, it was innovation, it was creativity, it was just letting go and letting the people of America create jobs, create companies–and that’s a type of change we need in America.

“We need to have the right business climate,” Fallin added. “Lower taxes, lower our debt, our deficit, have the right kind of public policy, so we can create jobs.”

She also expressed great excitement at the number of women and minorities involved in this year’s convention.

“There’s a lot of women that are involved and a lot of minorities that are involved in the Republican Party. We have twice the number of women governors that are Republican than are Democratic.

“You’re going to see a variety of people that are in the Republican Party, whether it’s women, whether it’s Hispanics, African-Americans, whatever it might be. We’re going to see the great face of America in the Republican Party.”
