President Donald Trump claimed Tuesday morning that the "fake" mainstream media is trying to force him off Twitter.
Trump then named the news outlets he was referring to, pointing to their giving his campaign low odds for success as their chief failing.
Just after the election, Trump told CBS' Leslie Stahl that he planned to be "very restrained" in his Twitter use as president "if I use it at all."
Trump blames the "very dishonest media, very dishonest press," for his frequent tweeting, telling Reuters in January that "it's my only way that I can counteract."
Presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway also hit out at the media for covering Trump’s tweets, saying on NBC's "Today" Show that their "obsession with covering everything he says on Twitter and very little of what he does as president ..."
Host Craig Melvin interrupted to point out, "That's his preferred method of communication with the American people."
To which Conway said, "that’s not true."
She later said, "I'm gonna not let him be seen as the perpetrator here. For every time you said 'Russia,' imagine if you said 'ISIS.' Every time you say 'Twitter,' imagine if you said 'terrorist.' We would have a different type of vigilance."
