Religious leaders sang the praises of President Donald Trump for visiting Saudi Arabia and Israel, saying it showed "the great religions of the world" he is committed to a "lasting peace" in the Middle East.

During his first overseas trip, Trump delivered a speech Sunday in Saudi Arabia that urged Islamic leaders to "drive out" terrorists, and on a visit Monday to Israel, became the first sitting U.S. president to pray at the Western Wall. He also visited the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, believed to be where Jesus was buried and resurrected.

"Instead of ignoring or downplaying the role of faith — as many politicians have mistakenly done throughout the years — our president has instead honored its unparalleled influence on the hearts and minds of believers to advance the cause of peace," the Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriquez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, said in a statement.

"Thanks in large part to these bold actions, we stand at the precipice of what could be a new beginning, one that promises cooperation and collaboration with our Arab friends and allies."

Pastor, Bible teacher, author, syndicated TV and radio host, Dr. David Jeremiah, declared the visits "laid the groundwork for a broad and unified coalition throughout the Middle East."

"The only leaders who truly make a difference in history are those who do what needs to be done, not what everyone else tells them is possible," he said in a statement. "I commend the president and call upon Christians throughout the United States to pray for God’s continued blessing on this important journey, especially as he visits the State of Israel."

My Faith Votes leader Jason Yates also hailed Trump's trip, particularly to Israel.

"As Christians, we believe that friendship with Israel is more than a wise, strategic decision in our fight against terror — it's also choosing God's blessing for our nation as we support His chosen people," he said, adding: "As Christians, we are reminded by the president's actions to stand firm in hope and prayer for peace to come to Israel."
