Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., announced he will resign from the House on Sunday, Roll Call is reporting.

Jenkins was defeated in a primary for the GOP Senate nomination earlier this year. However, he was appointed to a vacant seat on the state Supreme Court of Appeals in August.

He was due to leave office when his term expired, but the court vacancy required he leave earlier, according to Roll Call.
