Eric Trump Thursday hailed the latest jobs report as "very positive" after the number of Americans filing claims for unemployment benefits fell again for a 14th week, while a second wave of layoffs in part offset hirings as businesses reopen.
"If you go back to May, they thought there were 7 million more jobs lost in May and it was actually plus 2.5 million, so there was a 10 million job delta in that month," said Trump, the son of President Donald Trump and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, during an interview on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Then you go to June, (where) we picked up last month...jobless claims for 14 weeks have been decreasing."
He also pointed out that the NASDAQ hit "historic highs" Wednesday, and the Dow was 2,000 points off of all-time highs.
"I think that's a great story to tell, given the pandemic that really shook this entire world," Trump said.
Trump also commented on statements made by presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden, who has said he wants to "transform" the nation, that he thinks some funding should be redirected from police, and that he plans to "rewrite" the economy.
"You know, it means nothing," said Trump. "He was in charge of NAFTA, the biggest component of NAFTA, which cost this country 70,000 factories. This guy has been on the wrong end of every single trade deal."
He also on Thursday claimed that Biden does not "have the aptitude to debate my father," after The New York Times said in an opinion piece that no debate should be held unless Trump meets certain conditions.
