The Republican establishment is starting to coalesce around Donald Trump now that he's the presumptive nominee as people are "sick of the scandals, they're sick of the nonsense" when it comes to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, Trump's son, Eric, said Monday morning.
"He's honest, he speaks his mind, he's charismatic," Trump told Fox News' "Fox & Friends"
program. "He's different."
But with Clinton, he continued, "you see scandals like Benghazi, you see the Clinton Foundation
and what's happening, and the whole 'energizer' thing. It's a disaster, an absolute disaster."
Donald Trump has been meeting with several key Republican figures, and his son said Monday his father is "meeting with the best and brightest people around the world."
"That's how my father always ran a business," Eric Trump told the program. "He got the best, the brightest, the most hard-working people. He put them in a room, asked for their opinions, asked for their thoughts and went in. He's doing the exact same thing."
Donald Trump and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham
have been at odds with each other for months, but at a private Florida fundraiser over the weekend, he told supporters they should back Trump so that Clinton won't win the White House.
"The ultimate goal is to make sure Hillary doesn't get into office," Eric Trump said Monday. "If she gets into office, it's another four, eight years of the same nonsense we have now.
"I'm glad to see the parties start to come around. They're also starting to get to know my father. He is an amazing guy, I say this all the time, and he will win this."
But he said he understands that in the case of Graham and with others like former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, "it does hurt to lose, and sometimes it takes a little while to warm up . . . People want to see us beat Hillary."
Trump also struck back at claims being made that his father is not releasing his tax returns because they show his wealth to be much less than he claims.
"He's tremendously rich," said Trump of his father. "His father is one who shied away from his wealth. My father said, 'Listen, I'm a great American success story and that's why I want to run for commander in chief of the United States and I want to fix the mistakes. I've done it in the private world and I can do it in government.' That's a very special message."
