George Will: Budget Battle Profile Lifts Warren Against Hillary

By    |   Thursday, 11 December 2014 10:33 PM EST

Sen. Elizabeth Warren is gearing up for a Democratic primary run against presumed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton – and would easily out-poll her, columnist George Will predicts.

On the Fox News Channel's "Special Report" Thursday, Will, alongside host Bret Baier and columnists Charles Krauthammer and Juan Williams, noted the Massachusetts Democrat took the high-profile lead in liberal lawmakers' opposition this week to a $1.1 trillion federal budget proposal, which President Barack Obama had supported.

Story continues below video.

The segment was posted online by The Daily Caller.

Will suggested Warren's leadership in the budget opposition showcased her political chops and ability to go up against Clinton, who has not yet made public if she'll seek the nomination. He even thinks she'd outpace Clinton in polls that the former secretary of State has so far dominated.

"This could be the first shot in the Elizabeth Warren campaign. I want to join it," Krauthammer sarcastically commented. "I think it will be a joy for Republicans to have her as the opponent. Think about this: a left-wing first-term liberal senator out of Harvard. Exactly what the country is hungering for."

When Baier prodded the pundits, "Down the road, does she run? Yes or no?" Krauthammer responded "Yes," Williams noted "there is tremendous support" for Warren and Will boldly predicted, "If she announces in a week, she will be ahead of Hillary in polls of Democrats apt to participate in the primaries."

On Tuesday, MoveOn.org, a coalition of liberal groups, said it may launch a campaign urging Warren to make a presidential run in 2016, and announced plans to poll its members on the issue.

In the meantime, the organization says it may roll out a formal "draft Warren" campaign that would include offices and staff in early presidential primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire, the Washington Times reports.
