Outgoing Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin's remarks about GOP Senate candidate Jodi Ernst being "really attractive" shows that it's Democrats who are waging a "war on women," says Ed Morrissey, a senior editor on Hotair.com and columnist for The Week.
"As Joni Ernst said earlier today, if her name was John Ernst there's no way that her appearance would come up in a political attack," Morrissey said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"And yet here is Tom Harkin who is basically reducing a 21-year veteran of the Armed Services, an Iraq War combat veteran, and a two-term state senator to basically her looks. This is actually the war on women.
"This is actually demeaning and actually patronizing and it's of a piece of what Kirsten Gillibrand was complaining about two months ago when she was talking about how she was being treated in the Senate."
Harkin made the remarks last week at the annual fall barbecue of the Story County Democrats where he said Ernst was "really attractive" and warned that she "sounds nice."
"I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers. But, if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa," Harkin said.
