Georgia’s GOP Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan on Sunday declared the state “will not move the goalposts” and call for its legislature to come back into session to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Duncan said he worries President Donald Trump’s claims of a rigged election in Georgia could jeopardize Republicans’ must-win Jan. 5 Senate elections.

“I was not on the phone call but I know the governor and the president spoke yesterday,” he said. “The governor and I have spoken often about this and calling the General Assembly back in at this point would almost be along the lines of a solution trying to find a problem. We certainly will not move the goalposts at this point in the election.”

Duncan lamented the “mountains of misinformation” that are “hurting” the election process and “handing off a playbook to the Democrats.”

“I think short term this chaos creates doubt around January 5th and will we get enough Republicans to show up and vote,” he said. “Longer term I think it hurts our message [as] we figure out where do we go from here as a Republican Party and where do we go as GOP and how do we look forward how do we message better.”

Duncan said he has no doubt Joe Biden won the state, though the process “wasn’t perfect.”

“I voted for President Trump and campaigned for him and unfortunately he did not win the state of Georgia,” Duncan said. “If I had a chance to spend five minutes with every single person in Georgia that doubted the election results I think I would be able to win their hearts over... on January 20th, Joe Biden is going to be sworn in as the 46th president. The Constitution is still in place. This is still America.”

“As lieutenant governor I'm proud to see this election was fair,” he added. “Was it perfect? Absolutely not. I don't know that any election was perfect in the history of this country but certainly it's only been nominal changes since we have had three recount.”
