Duck Dynasty Patriarch Stars in Campaign Ads for Nephew

Zach Dasher, a Louisiana congressional candidate, is getting some help in the race from his most famous relative, "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Dasher is Robertson's nephew, and the reality series patriarch is appearing in two television ads as Dasher attempts to unseat the "Kissing Congressman," Rep. Vance McAllister, from his state's 5th Congressional District. McAllister is also a Republican.

"On Tuesday, Miss Kay and I are voting for Zach Dasher," Robertson tells voters in one spot. "He loves his family, he's got a servant's heart, he knows his Bible. He is a good man. We vetted him."

In another, the devoutly evangelical scion holds a firearm and continues a religious theme: "Hey, Louisiana, Bibles and guns brought us here, and Bibles and guns will keep us here. Zach Dasher believes in both. That's why I'm voting for him."

According to ABC News, another famous family member, Uncle Si, voiced robocalls for about 80,000 residents, telling prospective voters: "We need to elect a man that totes the Bible and believes in God. That's what this country was founded on — God and the Bible. There's a war going on. If you doubt that, look what's going on in Houston, Texas, all right?"

The calls were funded by the tea party-backed Madison Project, ABC News said.

Previously, the Robinson family had supported McAllister, but they pulled their support when a video surfaced of the married congressman kissing another woman, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The television ads will run districtwide until Election Day, according to the Times- Picayune, which noted the support Dasher had received from such conservative stars as Sarah Palin and the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins.

Noted the Times-Picayune of the race: "Dasher is one of several candidates vying for a spot in the December runoff. The race is very close between Dasher, McAllister, Republican Ralph Abraham and Democrat Jamie Mayo. Republicans Harris Brown and Clyde Holloway also hold an outside shot of slipping into one of the top two spots."
