President Donald Trump is growing more and more sensitive to building criticism that he may never accomplish the construction of a border wall between the United States and Mexico, according to a new report.

CNN cited three sources as saying Trump is becoming anxious about the potential he may fall short of his main campaign goal.

Republicans and Democrats cannot come to an agreement to provide funding for a border wall, which may end up shutting down the government later this week. For now, there is a short-term spending bill on the table that lawmakers are hopeful will get passed to avert the shutdown. The bill does not contain any wall money.

Democrats won back control of the House in last month's midterm elections, which means they will control the chamber for the final two years of Trump's first term starting in January. Without a House GOP majority, Trump would have a challenging time funding any wall.

Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that Mexico is paying for the border wall via the newly negotiated trade agreement between Canada, Mexico, and the U.S.

"Mexico is paying (indirectly) for the Wall through the new USMCA, the replacement for NAFTA! Far more money coming to the U.S. Because of the tremendous dangers at the Border, including large scale criminal and drug inflow, the United States Military will build the Wall!" Trump wrote.

Counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway, meanwhile, said Wednesday that all Trump wants is border security.

"They are trying to make a wall a four-letter word when the president has been talking about border security all along, as have the Democrats until he became president," she said.
