President Donald Trump’s hiring record doesn’t impress the voters, as a new poll shows that less than one-in-three Americans think he’s hired the "best people," Politico reports.
Trump promised in the 2016 election that he would "hire the best people" once in office. This week, Monmouth University Poll found that less than one-third of respondents rated Trump’s hires as the "best people," while over half said they were not.
- 30 percent said Trump has hired the "best people"
- 58 percent said Trump has not hire the “best people"
- 12 percent said Trump’s hiring record was mixed, or that they did not know
Roughly three-quarters of respondents were aware of two of the ongoing scandals involving former members of Trump’s presidential campaign and White House staff, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former staffer Omarosa Manigault Newman. Most respondents also lack confidence in the White House’s operations.
- 19 percent are "very confident" in how Trump’s staff and advisers conduct themselves in their jobs
- 23 percent are "somewhat confident"
- 13 percent are "not too confident"
- 42 percent are "not at all confident"
- 3 percent don’t know
Monmouth University Polling Institute conducted interviews with 805 adults in the U.S. from August 15 to 19, by phone. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
