People outside the White House are telling President Donald Trump he may not need a communications director or a chief of staff, CNN reports.
CNN cited a person familiar with the conversations that have taken place as saying Trump has yet to indicate whether he will take the advice. The position of White House communications director is now vacant after the departure of Hope Hicks. John Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, is Trump's chief of staff.
Rumors have swirled for months that Trump is considering firing Kelly, whom he hired for the job last summer.
Hicks announced her intention to step aside about a month ago. Her last day at the White House was Thursday, although she has spent less time in the West Wing since handing in her resignation.
Trump has gone around Kelly for certain things like phone meetings with foreign leaders and some of the staffing changes that have shaken up the West Wing in recent weeks.
On Wednesday, however, Kelly told VA Secretary David Shulkin he was being relieved of his duties.
