NBC News on Sunday put out a correction to its report on President Donald Trump’s comments regarding the Civil War, saying that he did not describe Confederate General Robert E. Lee as “incredible.”
The tweet from NBC, which started out with the word “correction” in capital letters, said that “An earlier tweet misidentified the general President Trump described as 'incredible' at a rally in Ohio. It was Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, not Gen. Robert E. Lee.”
Trump made the remarks during a campaign rally in Lebanon, Ohio, on Friday.
After NBC News originally put out the incorrect tweet, Trump slammed the station in a tweet of his own.
“NBC News has totally and purposely changed the point and meaning of my story about General Robert E Lee and General Ulysses Grant,” Trump wrote in his tweet. “Was actually a shoutout to warrior Grant and the great state in which he was born. As usual, dishonest reporting. Even mainstream media embarrassed!”
Other media outlets also criticized the president’s speech based on the inaccurate reporting, The Daily Caller reported.
Following the publication of the correction, the president sent out another tweet thanking NBC News.
