Donald Trump Jr. canceled his appearance at a fundraiser for George P. Bush after Jeb Bush tweeted "children shouldn't be used as a negotiating tool" and President Donald Trump "should end this heartless policy," in reference to the zero-tolerance policy being implanted at the U.S.-Mexico border, Axios reports.
Jeb Bush's tweet was the final straw for Trump Jr., who was planning to headline a June 25 fundraiser in New York for George P. Bush as he seeks re-election for Texas land commissioner this fall. Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, is George P. Bush's father.
Trump Jr. and George P. Bush had forged a political friendship despite their father's open hostility toward each other in the Republican presidential primaries – George P. Bush endorsed Trump in the general election and the president backed George P. Bush in his re-election bid. But things started to unravel in March when Jeb Bush during a lecture said, despite losing the 2016 election, he at least had children to go home to who "actually love me."
Jeb Bush earlier this month took another swipe at Trump, and George P. Bush "apologized profusely" to Trump Jr., according to Axios, and said his father would not do it again. Trump Jr. told him he could not support his campaign if his dad continued to attack his father.
